(Glendora, CA – January 19, 2021) – College Health Enterprises and the Prime Healthcare Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, announced today that they have executed an Asset Purchase Agreement for the sale of Glendora Oaks Behavioral Health Hospital.

Under the agreement, College Health will not only maintain but also expand services at the hospital by increasing the total licensed beds. College Health has further agreed to maintain the hospital’s commitment to charity care and community benefit services, retain at least 90% of the current employees and maintain privileges for current medical staff. College Health is committed to continuing the mission of the hospital to provide behavioral health services to the community and address the shortage of mental health services in California.

In response to the growing need for hospital beds for mental health patients, Prime Healthcare Foundation established Glendora Oaks in 2019. Prime has invested more than $14 million in Glendora Oaks through substantial facility and equipment upgrades, including a recent 23-bed expansion. Glendora Oaks is one of the only inpatient geriatric psychiatric facilities in East San Gabriel Valley and has received awards for its clinical excellence including accreditation from The Joint Commission and the Patient Safety Excellence Award from Healthgrades.

“Glendora Oaks Behavioral Health Hospital provides a crucial safety net service to a vulnerable and growing population of seniors in Los Angeles County,” said Parrish Scarboro, Glendora Oaks CEO. “I am confident that College Health will continue its record of excellence in behavioral health and look forward to working in partnership through the transition.”

College Health was selected as the buyer for Glendora Oaks after an extensive search process to identify the organization best able to carry on the mission of the hospital. For over 35 years, College Health has specialized in the operation and management of general acute care hospitals, behavioral health hospitals and other healthcare facilities in Southern California. Consistent with College Health’s mission, vision and values, the addition of Glendora Oaks Behavioral Health Hospital to the College Health organization will increase access to high-quality behavioral healthcare services and enhance the delivery of care to the Glendora community, as well as to other communities throughout Southern California.

College Health has committed to investing in additional acute psychiatric beds, increasing the number of beds at the hospital in the next few years. College Health will also maintain the hospital’s financial assistance program, levels of charity care and community benefit, Medi-Cal and Medicare certification, as well as all Medi-Cal managed care contracts. “We are honored and look forward to partnering with Glendora Oaks Behavioral Health Hospital through the acquisition process while continuing the Glendora Oaks mission of compassionate, critical behavioral health care for seniors,” said Harvey Ross, College Health’s appointed CEO for Glendora Oaks.

Glendora Oaks remains fully operational during the transition and hospital staff will be supported as they continue to provide critical care during the COVID pandemic. The sale process is expected to take three to four months and there is no expected interruption in services or care throughout this process.
